Inspecting a lake intake in North Texas.  Commercial diver prepares to be lowered into the water.  This will be a near zero vizability dive to inspect the floor of the facility.  The diver is using line air and has communications with the surface.

With low visability a ROV or underwater camera is not very effective. The diver is able to use touch and feel to blindly inspect the underwater areas of the intake.

Safety is the No. 1 priority on a job like this.  Before the diver gets near the water he, the crew chief and the Utility supervisors confirm that all pumps are locked out and tagged out*.  Failure to do so is an OSHA violation and more important can have more tragic consequences**.
